by Ihar Klimau (Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts)

[25th March, 2006 at 14:00]

Séance Langues biélorusse et ukrainienne comme éléments déterminants des identités - Situation d’aujourd’hui et perspectives
Within Belarusian there is no dominant dialect. Nevertheless not one common standard arose, but two kinds of standard language –Taraškevič’s modus, historically the first (codificated by Taraškevič in his 1918 grammar), and Under Soviet (otherwise called Narkom’s, or the People’s Commissars’) modus created by the Soviet government during the 1930s as opposed to Taraškevič’. In this paper an attempt will be made to explain the evolution of these two Belarusian standard languages up to the present time.
